It was when I left Sara yesterday, after her awful accusations about Roxanne, that the text from Andy appeared on my phone.

There’s someone else. There’s always been someone else. I’m so sorry.

The shock was too much.

He’d told me on Saturday that he would come to Sweden, and now this. Is he trying to send me mad? Confuse me? Has he forgotten the way we made love so intensely? Has he forgotten the way he touched me? How he trailed hot kisses over my body, so I heard fireworks, felt sparks land on my skin?

‘I love you, Isla,’ he’d said so many times in Canada.

I’ve replied to his text. Told him I refuse to believe his words. Begged him to be there on Friday in Sweden like he promised.

He has to be, because if he isn’t, there’s simply nothing left to live for.

If he doesn’t come, I will die out there in the cold.
